The following information was released by the Association of Research Libraries: Washington DC-OCLC has announced a new Minority Librarian Fellowship program designed to provide a unique opportunity for aspiring library professionals from historically underrepresented groups, with special consideration being given to Association of Research Libraries (ARL) Diversity Scholars who apply to the program this year. The yearlong, paid fellowship offers the selected fellow two three-month assignments within specific divisions of OCLC and one six-month assignment with a specific operating unit within the OCLC organization.  Read More

BAE completes MTC acquisition RIVERSIDE - British defense contractor BAE Systems has completed its $450 million acquisition of MTC Technologies Inc., BAE said on Monday, June 9. BAE Systems announced the planned acquisition in December and received U.S. government approval for it this year. The deal pays MTC Technologies stockholders $24 in cash for each share of common stock held at the transaction's closing.  Read More

DEALS Accord reached on Bell Canada Ottawa --- Private equity buyers apparently salvaged a $52 billion deal for Bell Canada on Friday by shifting its closing date to later this year and canceling dividend payments. The consortium of banks that had agreed to provide about $34 billion in financing for the acquisition were demanding changes to lending terms made a year ago before the current credit crunch. The deal was originally set to close Monday, but that deadline was extended because of the talks with the banks, as well as a legal issue. The new agreement effectively reduces the price by about $2 a share by moving the closing date to Dec. 11 and halting dividend payments to holders of common shares.
